At Cinema Role, we let the dice decide!
We roll dice to choose a movie, how we watch it, and to drive our discussion! How’s it work? Read on!
What we roll: D20, D10, D8, and D6
The 20-sided die roll chooses the sheet from which we’ll select the movie to watch and discuss. Since there are 20 sheets, this is easy. The 8-sided die gives us the first digit of our row number. The 10-sided die chooses the second digit. And that’s our movie… Unless…
- We’ve already done a podcast episode on the movie chosen, or we can’t find the movie available to watch anywhere. In this case, we re-roll the D10 and the D8.
- The 8 sided die lands on a 7 or 8. Since there are no rows that start with 7 or 8, 7 will designate a re-roll and 8 will become a 0.
- If the first digit is a 0 and the second is also a 0, we’ll re-roll the D10.
Guiding our Discussion
In addition to our movie list, we came up with 6 things to discuss about each movie we watch. They are:
- Technology & Science
- Color Theory
- Special/Practical Effects
- Fashion
- Cinematography
- Dialogue
Prior to watching, we’ll each roll our 6-sided die once to select one thing to pay extra attention to. While we each watch, we’ll take notes with that thing in mind.
Discussion
After we watch our selected movie, we’ll sit down and talk about it. In addition to our three things from the list above, we’ll roll our D20 to guide our discussion some more. Each number will designate a segment as follows:
