Compiling the List
Together, we came up with a list of 1,300 movies (we know we missed some… probably your favorite… you can let us know about that here). We sorted the list alphabetically and then each went through and marked the following:
- Seen It
- Favorite
- Hated it!
- Want to Watch
This was purely for data collection purposes, and won’t affect whether we watch a movie or not. You can see our movie counts down in the footer, if you’re interested.
Getting Ready to Roll
Once we’d collected our data, we left our Master List sorted alphabetically and then divided it up into 20 sheets of 69 movies per sheet. This helps ensure our dice rolls give us enough variety to keep things interesting.
Of course, after we were done with all of that, we realized we missed some. So instead of having to divide things up again we added an Alternates List and came up with a plan for it.

The Alternates List
Our Alternates List is where movie suggestions that aren’t on our original Master List will go. It probably still won’t have your favorite on it, we know! But don’t worry… we’ll be periodically adding to it as we realize what we’ve missed, or as new stuff comes out. Once we get to a point where we’ve discussed enough that rolling becomes a challenge, or too many movies on our Master List are inaccessible, we’ll start pulling from it.
The Alternates list has the same data, in terms of whether we each saw it, loved it, or hated it, and is included in the info in the footer.
